Rejecting Federalism is Not Amusing

All across Texas citizens are calling for a renewed commitment to the 10th amendment and a reinvigorated adherence to the principle of Federalism and the doctrine of enumerated powers. 

These Texans believe they were created in the image and likeness of God and endowed by Him – not Washington, not Austin -- with certain inalienable rights.  They believe that governmental power properly resides, first, with the people, who then grant or delegate their power, reserve it, or prohibit its exercise.  They believe the Constitution assigns the federal government specific, but limited powers, and that most government functions are left to the states.  They believe the doctrine of enumerated powers is the principal line of defense against an overreaching federal government and that the Bill of Rights, added two years after the Constitution was ratified, provides further protection. They believe the principal role of government is to advance the cause of individual liberty.

In December, I had the privilege of joining the rest of the Williams campaign staff, my camera in tow, to watch the taping of Evan Smith’s interview with Commissioner Williams for the PBS talk show Texas Monthly Talks. A departure from the tradition political event I’m accustomed to, it turned out to be a perfect setting for the Commissioner to demonstrate the depth of his ability to discuss a wide range of issues.

Dallas Morning News: "Michael Williams has DeMint nod for U.S. Senate"

Texas Railroad Commission member Michael Williams is "probably one of the brightest stars in the country" among conservatives and deserves to be Texas' next U.S. senator, South Carolina Republican Sen. Jim DeMint said this morning in a conference call.

"Michael Williams is the Democrat Party's worst nightmare," DeMint said in a statement, because he'll oppose "massive spending, bailouts and takeovers." Speaking to reporters, DeMint said Williams "has just been very clear and winsome with what he stands for...That's what we desperately need."
