Commissioner Williams talks energy and education in Lewisville and Jefferson

by Corbin Casteel, Campaign Manager

Commissioner Michael Williams' campaign for U.S. Senate took him to north Texas and east Texas over the weekend.  In Denton County, he joined Congressman Michael Burgess at an energy conservation summit in Lewisville.  In east Texas, he attended the graduation ceremony of his "Winnovators" summer camp.

Commissioner Williams, a lifelong Republican, is passionate about inspiring the next generation of scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians to help develop the innovative technologies of tomorrow.  He shot a short YouTube video about the first camp last year. It's worth a quick minute of your time.

I have posted two articles below that ran over the weekend in the Denton Record-Chronicle and the Longview News-Journal. Take a look and don't forget to with your friends. Thank you.

Longview News Journal: Winnovators program teaches students math, science skills

by Christina Lane

JEFFERSON — Before Sept. 11, 2001, the second greatest threat to national security was the paucity of math and science education in America, Texas Railroad Commissioner Michael Williams said Friday.

Williams co-created the Winnovators program, which wrapped up in Jefferson with a ceremony on Friday. Winnovators focuses on using math and science to make 3-D models and animation with computer technology. It's for students age 14 and up. A program called iTransformers uses the same technology but targets children 11 to 13. The program has been offered locally for two years.

"We're trying to get young folks excited about math and science," Williams said.  Read more.
